At The Animal Hospital of Lynchburg, preventative medicine is the cornerstone of our practice. Through annual wellness examinations and comprehensive diagnostic testing, we can extend the time you share with your greatest companions.

Some of our services and capabilities are:

 Diagnostic & Laboratory Services:

Our hospital is equipped to provide full, in-house diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs. We have the capability to run Complete Blood Counts (CBC), Full Serum Chemistries (Liver, Kidney, Blood Sugar and Electrolyte levels), Blood Parasite Screening (Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis, and Heartworm disease) Parvoviral Enteritis Testing (Parvo), Fecal Parasite Examinations (Intestinal Worms), Full Urinalysis as well as Thyroid levels in- house.  This means that you receive the results of the tests in a more timely manner.  In addition to in-house testing, we have access to numerous outside laboratories that allow us to run diagnostic panels such as Pancreatic Enzyme Levels to Adrenal Function panels, as well as canine and feline vaccine titers.

Surgical Services:

Our on site surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures.  We have the capability to perform Soft-Tissue as well as Orthopedic surgery on every species that we see, from dogs and cats to birds, reptiles and small mammals.  We have an extensive array of surgical instrumentation for soft tissue as well as most orthopedic procedures.

Anesthesia:

We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high risk patients. We do NOT rely on one stock anesthetic protocol, but tailor our anesthesia to each and every patient as the situation mandates. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures. We closely monitor heart rate and rhythm, respiratory rate and rhythm, blood oxygenation, core body temperature, and in needed cases, blood pressures.

Internal Medicine Consults:

Occasionally we find a case that is in need of diagnostic services that we are unable to offer.  In that situation, we will always present to you the alternatives for referral. We work closely with several specialty practices that offer a wide array of specialty veterinarians and the ability to perform procedures such as MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) or CAT Scan (Computed Tomography)

Radiology Services:

Our on-site, digital X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.

Ultrasonography:

We have in-house ultrasound equipment to complement our other diagnostic tools. Ultrasound is a noninvasive and very informative tool for viewing abdominal organs and for assisting with biopsy procedures.

Electrocardiography (EKG):

We provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists. We also have the in-house capabilities for measuring your pets blood pressure - very important in cases of heart disease, renal failure and hyperthyroidism.

Dentistry:

Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, dental X-rays, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery. In addition, Dr. Jean is one of the few veterinarians in the area who have the capability to perform restorations and root canals when appropriate.

Laboratory:

Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, thyroid, electrolyte, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.

Microchipping:

We offer microchip identification through HomeAgain. The latest innovations allow you to have 24-7 access to your pet's recovery program throughout the USA! This is a nonpainful, yet permanent form of identification.

Pharmacy:

We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets, as well as having our own online pharmacy specific to our hospital! We also have an online pharmacy for prescription pet food and medications, even compounding specific medications for your pet.
